Ruby Irene Young, 94, formerly of the St. James area, passed away at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014, at Brookstone Estates in Vandalia.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on Sunday at Macendonia Church in Loogootee, with the Revs. Jim Zeigler and James Mulvaney officiating. Burial was in Watson Cemetery in Effingham County. Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m. on Saturday at C&A Pagel Funeral Home in St. Elmo. Memorials: Fayette County Hospice or donor's choice.
Mrs. Young was born on March 3, 1920, in rural Effingham County, the daughter of Lewis and Edith Crosier Ketcham. She married Lawrence L. Young on Dec. 7, 1942, in St. Louis, Mo.; he passed away on May 2, 1988.
She was an Avon representative for several years.
She is survived by daughters, Barbara and her husband Ronald Newburn of Brownstown, and Susie Pontious of Vandalia; grandchildren, Kelly, Robyn, David, Shawn and Douglas; four great-grandchildren; several great-stepgrandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Lee, Leslie, Delbert, Bill, Eugene and a brother in infancy; sisters, Mary "Tootie" Peterson, Emma Walker and Helen Ketcham, who also died in infancy; and a grandson, Brian Newburn.
