Russell Todd Strobel, 53, of Martinsville, formerly of Vandalia, passed away at 10:55 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Ind.
Services were held at 7 p.m. on Monday at Greenwell Funeral Home in Martinsville with the Rev. Jeff Lakins officiating. Visitation was held from 6 p.m. until time of services on Monday at the funeral home. Memorials: The family, c/o Markwell Funeral Home, P.O. Box 175, Casey, Ill. 62420. Mr. Strobel was born on March 11, 1963, in Shelbyville, the son of Dean Otto and Willie Dean Isabel Strobel. He married Melissa E. Myers on Oct. 25, 2008, at Moriah Church of God in rural Casey.
He was a 1981 graduate of Vandalia Community High Schoo. He and Melissa worked as self-employed online retailers. Russell enjoyed hunting, fishing and, most recently, had a passion for astronomy and studying the stars. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife; mother, of Vandalia; children, Samantha, Rachel and Travis Strobel, and Adrianna and Kaitlin Conner; brothers, Rob Strobel and his wife Sharon of Vandalia, and Randy Strobel of Ramsey; many additional family members; friends, and Yorkie "Bella, pugs "Lilly" and "Frank," Chiweenie "Bruno."
He was preceded in death by his father.
