Ruth Wasmuth, 89, of St. Peter, passed away at 12:39 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 16, 2015, at Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Pagel Funeral Home in St. Peter, with the Rev. Peter LeDuc officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials: St. Peter's Lutheran School or donor's choice. Online condolences may be expressed at www.pagelfuneralhome.com.
Mrs. Wasmuth was born on Oct. 11, 1926, in Decatur, the daughter of Orville and Pauline (Ooton) Powell. She married Virgil "Butch" Wasmuth on Dec. 24, 1949, at St. James Lutheran Church in Vandalia; he preceded her in death on Sept. 14, 1998.
Ruth was a member of the St. Peter American Legion Auxiliary, and she loved traveling and spending time with her large family.
She is survived by her sons, Gary Powell and his wife Doris of Salem, Jerry Pribble and his wife Betty of Orlando, Fla., Steve Wasmuth and his wife Shelly of St. Peter, David Wasmuth and his wife Lisa of Augsburg, and Jeffery Wasmuth of St. Peter; daughters, Patty and her husband Mark Hapeman of Salem, and Pam and her husband Jim Allen of St. Peter; 21 grandchidlren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Robert Powell; and a sister, Mary Wasmuth.
