Samuel P. Yagow, 85, of St. Elmo, died at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012, at Lutheran Care Center in Altamont.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altamont, with the Rev. Dr. James Wright and the Rev. Jason Rensner officiating. Burial with military rites was in the church cemetery. Visitation was held from 4-7 p.m. on Saturday at Kull Funeral Chapel in Altamont and one hour before services on Sunday at the church. Mr. Yagow was born on Oct. 23, 1927, in the Bethlehem community near Altamont in Effingham County, the son of Samuel Paul and Hilda Louise Brauer Yagow. He married Dorothy "Dottie" Gruhn on April 20, 1952, at First Lutheran Church in Boston, Mass.
He is survived by his wife; son, Paul Yagow and his wife Jeanie of Beecher City; and daughters, Karen and her husband Mel Stuemke of St. Elmo, Deb and her husband Steve Worland of New Albany, Ind., and Robin and her husband Rob Klima of Mancehster, Iowa.
