Scott Merriam Bigham, 56, of Laurens, S.C., entered eternity on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2015, and is celebrating his victory over cancer with his heavenly father.
Services will beheld at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at Covenant United Methodist Church in Greer, S.C. Burial with military honors will be in Graceland East Memorial Park in Greenville, S.C. A gathering and reception will follow the committal services at Mauldin United Methodist Church. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. on Monday at Gray Funeral Home of Laurens. Mr. Bigham was born in Vandalia, and was the son of Joyce Van Sant Bigham-Mueller and the late Harold Bigham.
Scott grew up on a dairy farm in Illinois and following his graduation from high school, and at the age of 17, joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a graduate of Southern Illinois University with a bachelor's degree in journalism. He was a partner in Bigham Cable Construction, based in Gulf Breeze, Fla.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Angie Burton Bigham; stepson, Peyton Burton; stepdaughter, Kadie Burton; brother, Harold Bruce Bigham and his wife Cindy of Anderson, S.C.; sister, Ann and her husband Jim Sumner of Covington, Ga.; stepmother, Margo Bigham of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; stepbrother, Jeff Smock of Taylors, S.C.; nieces and nephews; and mother- and father-in-law, Arnold and Joanie Sutter of Simpsonville, S.C.
He was preceded in death by a stepbrother, Chris Smock.
