Thelma I. Alton, 95, of Vandalia, passed away at 9:33 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, at Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care in Vandalia.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Crown Point Community Church in rural Vandalia, with the Rev. Pete LeDuc officiating. Burial will be in Noffsinger Cemetery in Mulberry Grove. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until time of services on Tuesday at the church. Hohlt and File Funeral Home in Vandalia was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Alton was born on Nov. 14, 1918, in Pleasant View Township in Macon County, the daughter of Lawrence and Minnie Smith Moore. She married Melvin I. Alton on Nov. 28, 1936, in Effingham County; he preceded her in death on July 26, 1972.
She was farmer's wife and homemaker.
She is survived by sons, Nick Alton and his wife Diane of Vandalia, Scott Alton and his wife Edna of Vandalia, and Roy Alton and his wife Linda of Centralia; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Melvin Alton Jr.; and two brothers.
