Verna H. Stallings, 91, of Vandalia, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia.
Mrs. Stallings donated her body to science. No services are being held at this time.
She was born on April 28, 1922, in Shafter Township, Fayette County, the daughter of Ernest and Morna Bess Himes.
She married Roy Allsup Sr. in August 1940 in St. Charles Mo. They then moved to San Diego, Calif., where they had two children, Judith Ann and Roy E. Jr. She later married Leslie Stallings in North Carolina in 1968.
She was a health care worker and an auxiliary member at Fayette County Hospital, where she volunteered more than 1,000 hours. She was also a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Vandalia Moose Lodge, and Home and Community Education, and volunteered for Red Cross. She loved to knit and crochet, and she donated her works to Caring and Sharing. She was a great seamstress, and she loved gardening and crafts.
She is survived by a daughter, Judith Cole; son, Roy Allsup Jr.; brother, Clarence and his wife Ella Himes; sisters, June and her husband Maurice Trexler, and Betty Snyder; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; sisters, Esther Traylor, Evelyn Scott and Bernice Roe; and brothers, Marsden Himes, Raymond Lee Himes and Maurice Dean Himes.
