Obituary

Vincent N. Thull, 101, a lifelong resident of Ramsey, died on Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, in Springfield.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ramsey, with the Rev. Barry Harmon officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Ramsey, with his six surviving sons serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 4:30-7 p.m. on Friday at Miller Funeral Home in Ramsey, with a rosary at 5 p.m. Memorials: St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery or St. John's Hospice in Springfield. Mr. Thull was born on July 19, 1912, the son of Nicholas and Nellie Miller Thull. He married Emma Huber on April 10, 1939. After 71 years of marriage, she preceded him in death on Aug. 18, 2001.
Vincent was a talented craftsman, wood artisan and carpenter for more than 45 years. He also taught his sons to be tradesmen as well. He built many new homes and completed many remodeling projects throughout his many years of applying his trade to most everyone in the community. In later years, he crafted beautiful violins and many other keepsake items. He was a good friend and neighbor to many and unselfishly shared his talents with anyone in need.
Vincent leaves a legacy as well as smiles to the stories he could tell. They say, "When an old man dies, a library burns down." When Vinnie passed away, there was a huge inferno.
He is survived by sons, Harold Thull and his wife Patsy of Mulberry Grove, Merrill Thull and his wife Grace of Vandalia, Edward Thull and his wife Lona of Apache Junction, Ariz., Robert Thull and his wife Pamela of Independence, Mo., Joseph Thull and his wife Sylvia of Ramsey, and Fred Thull and his wife Silvia of Las Vegas, Nev.; daughters, Mary and her husband Lindell Stevens of Clinton, Utah, and Ann and her husband Leo Midden of Springfield; 25 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; a brother, Nick Thull of Grand Rapids, Mich.; and a sister, Lena Pickowitz of Ft. Myers, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Dale; daughter, Elta; brothers, Raymond, Charles, Anthony, John and Albert; and sisters, Barbara Thull, Adeline Reardon, Louise Koehler and Marie Ernst.
