Virginia M. Smith, 93, of Vandalia, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, at Hillsboro Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Hillsboro.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at Bethel Baptist Church in rural Vandalia, with the Revs. Ernest Flowers and Joe Lawson officiating. Burial will be in McInturff Cemetery in Hagarstown. Mrs. Smith was born on July 31, 1920, in Livingston, the daughter of Jake L. and Ada C. Rachow Thacker. She married Voris R. Smith on April 8, 1939, in St. Louis, Mo.; he passed away on Jan. 25, 1990.
She was a nurse's aide at Fayette County Hospital, and a member of Fayette County Home Extension and Bethel Baptist Church, all of Vandalia.
She is survived by sons, Kenneth Smith, Robert Smith and his wife Helen, Edward Smith and his wife Jackie, and Herbert Smith and his wife Debbie, all of Vandalia; daughters, Karen Little of Hewitt, Texas, and Marilyn and her husband Mike Kopp of Vandalia; brother, Bill Thacker of Mulberry Grove; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; four brothers; daughter-in-law, Janet Smith; and son-in-law, Jerry Little.
