Walter Earl Thompson, 89, of Vandalia, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2018, at Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at McInturff Cemetery in rural Vandalia, with Pastor Jim Quick officiating. Memorials: . Hohlt and File Funeral Home in Vandalia was in charge of arrangements. Online condolences can be expressed at www.hohltandfilefh.com.
Mr. Thompson was born on Jan. 12, 1929, in Union City, Tenn., the son of Lillard and Laura (McDaniels) Thompson. He married Betty June Ropp on Oct. 5, 1947; she preceded him in death in 1998. He later married Marjorie Ellen McIntyre; she preceded him in death in 2017.
Walter was a union construction electrician. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers No. 146 in Decatur and Northside Christian Church in Vandalia, and a former member of Eagles Lodge No. 3901. He loved to fly planes.
He is survived by his daughters, Mickey Gephart of Vandalia, Pama and husband Daniel Boone of Kinmundy, and Deborah and husband Danny Ward of Brownstown; stepdaughters, Betty (McIntyre) and husband Roger Roe of Brownstown, Jessie (McIntyre) and husband Hubert Maske of Ramsey, and Bobbie (McIntyre) and husband Sam Lippse of Tucson, Ariz.; sister, Bonnie Broderick of Tucson, Ariz.; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty; wife, Marjorie; a son, Billy Leroy Thompson; and a granddaughter, Shawna Ward.
