Mr. Mueller was born into the Christian family of Elmer T. and Alma (Sandersfeld) Mueller, the youngest of four siblings, on May 15, 1946, in Cape Girardeau, Mo. In 1954, the family moved to Altamont, where his father accepted a teacher call to Bethlehem Lutheran Church School. Wayne confirmed his faith at Bethlehem and graduated from the parochial school, and then attended and graduated with the class of 1964 from Altamont Community High School. While in school, Wayne was active in numerous activities, but was very proud to be a member of the ACHS track team, as well as being an active member of his church for a number of years.
On Nov. 19, 1967, in the First Christian Church of St. Elmo, Wayne married Marsha Johana Waddell
In the community, his activities included being an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he held numerous offices in the church. He was most proud of being a member of the Church choir, both men and mixed members. Other memberships included Lutheran Layman's League, Mill Road Threshermen, County Line Sod Busters, Altamont Sportsman Club and Local No. 179 Teamsters. He was a 35-year member of the Altamont Volunteer Fire Department, and he volunteered to deliver Meals on Wheels.
His hobbies included his most precious Oliver tractor collection, woodworking, camping and fishing, playing cards, gardening and perfecting his wine-making ability. Wayne was employed as a truck driver, beginning in his earlier years delivering milk. He was still employed at his death by Direct Lines of Effingham. Simply worded, Wayne just enjoyed working, his grandsons and his special companion Bandit Wayne, a faithful dog.
