Wendell "Darrell" Isbell, 88, of Charleston, S.C., formerly of Vandalia, entered into eternal rest on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandlaia, with the Rev. Peter Kolb officiating. Friends and family may gather at Hohlt and File Funeral Home in Vandalia at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Memorials: . Online condolences may be shared at www.hohltandfilefh.com.
Mr. Isbell was born on Sept. 26, 1924, in Vandalia, the son of Lonnie and Helen Crandall Isbell.
He was a retired assistant vice president in banking, and was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Navy. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and American Legion, and an active volunteer with many organizations.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Jean Isbell; daughters, Sarah and her husband Dale Lessen of Lincoln, Beth Janssen of Charleston, S.C., and Christina and her husband Christopher Evans of Columbus, Ohio; son, Mark C. Isbell of Forsyth; sisters, Doris and her husband Ed Helm of Vandalia, Betty Isbell of Vandalia, Donna and her husband Wayne Cunningham of Prairie Village, Kan., and Sue and her husband Don Musgrave of St. Charles, Mo.; and grandchildren, Shelby Lessen, Ashley Lessen and Madison Evans.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Wanda Hedger Isbell; brothers, Tom Isbell and Miller Isbell; and sister, Jane Isbell.
