Eldon Leon "Leon" Lawler, 70, of Mulberry Grove, died on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia, with the Revs. Harry Kirk and Ernest Flowers officiating. Burial with military rites was in Green Hill Cemetery in rural Fillmore. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials: Green Hill Cemetery. Mr. Lawler was born on Dec. 6, 1942, in Bond County, the son of Eldon D. and Josephine L. Brown Lawler. He married Linda K. Washburn on May 26, 1962, in Bluff City.
He was a grain and livestock farmer, worked for 20 years at Pet Milk Inc., and was the former owner/operator of Triple L Trucking, 2007-11. He was a graduate of Vandalia Community High School. He was a member of the Mulberry Grove American Legion Post, Vandalia Moose Lodge, National Corn Growers Association, Society for the Preservation of Early County and Western Music Inc. and Bond County Farm Bureau, and he served on the Mulberry Grove Township Board for several years. He was an Army veteran, serving from 1966-68.
He is survived by his wife; brother, Larry Lawler and his wife Ava of Mulberry Grove; half sisters, Debbie Jones and Denise Bray, both of Kentucky; and nieces and nephews, Michael, Tony, Stephanie, Seth and Cory.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
