Nancy Elizabeth (Thompson) Lewis, 72, of Vandalia, passed away at 9:38 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 16, 2015, at Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in Vandalia, with the Rev. Krista Stokke officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services on Thursday at the church. Hohlt and File Funeral Home in Vandalia is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Lewis was born on Sept. 30, 1942, in Vandalia, the daughter of Donald and Ruth Campbell Thompson. She married Michael Lewis on Jan. 11, 1986, in Vandalia; he preceded her in death on Nov. 14, 2011.
She worked as a secretary for the city of Vandalia before retiring. She was a member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church and Order of Eastern Star-Melrose and Effingham chapters; and she loved her two faithful dogs, Sophie and Bella.
She is survived by a son, William Todd Cearlock and husband Steven Happel of Dallas, Texas; stepson, Tim Lewis of Litchfield; stepdaughter, Cynthia Lewis of Litchfield; brother, George Thompson and his wife Judy of Temecula, Calif.; sister, Melinda and her husband Ed Garrison of Vandalia; and sister-in-in-law, Pat and her husband Bill Hoffman of Vandalia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and infant children, Elizabeth Ann and Jon Thomas.
