Betty Jane Thompson Haydon, 79, formerly of Walnut Street, Springfield, died at 3:35 a.m. Monday, Feb. 17, 2014 at Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.
She had been a resident at Loretto Motherhouse Infirmary for the last 2 1/2 years.
She was born on Aug. 13, 1934 in Washington County. She was a former teacher at Mackville Elementary and St. Dominic Schools, had been a piano teacher for many years, was a homemaker and a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Marvin Peters and Dorothy Raybourne Thompson; a son, Benedict Simms Haydon, March 11, 2012; and a brother, Dr. William Reid Thompson.
Survivors include: her husband, Lloyd Haydon, a resident at Loretto Motherhouse Infirmary at Nerinx; three sons, George Lloyd (Marlene) Haydon IV of Louisville, Eric (Christina) Haydon of Cincinnati, Ohio and Julio (Cindy) Burgos of Loretto; four daughters, Elizabeth Jane (Larry) Martin of Carmel, Ind., Dorothy (Bruce) Smith of Shelbyville, Jacqueline (Scott) Surface of LaGrange and Vicky (Dwayne) Mackin of Lebanon; a brother, Dr. Pete (Brenda) Thompson of Richmond; a sister, Jackie (Binford) Sutton of Lawrenceburg; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Springfield with burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Rev. Culpepper Elliott officiated.
Pallbearers were George Haydon, Dwayne Mackin, Larry and Jack Martin, Scott and Cody Surface, and Zeke and Zach Haydon.
Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
