Eula Frances Pope Hourigan, 94, was born on Aug. 25, 1919 in Washington County to Lonzo Earl and Ida Lee Cocanaugher Pope. She died Dec. 12, 2013 at 11:05 a.m. She was married to Fred Cleaver Hourigan on Sept. 6, 1934 who proceeded her in death on May 29,1979 after 44 years of marriage. To that union was born four children: Kathleen Hourigan Hardesty Caswell who proceeded her in death on May 6, 1979, Evelyleen Hourigan Taylor, Richard Nelson Hourigan, and James Kenneth "J.K." Hourigan.
She was a housewife and farmer until her husband's death. She then started working for the Marion County Board of Education as a lunchroom lady until her retirement in 1994 after 15 years of service. She loved to work outside, cook, sew, read, and sing. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother until her death.
She professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Woodlawn Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Lonzo Earl and Ida Lee Cocanougher Pope; a sister, Margaret Dee Pope Gordon; and three brothers, Henry Bosley "H.B." Pope, Charles Bruce Pope, and Lonzo Earl Pope Jr.
She is survived by three children: Evelyleen (Ernest Carol "Zack") Taylor, Richard (Debbie Colburn) Hourigan, and James Kenneth "J.K." (Carolyn Waford) Hourigan. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great- grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, at Bosley Funeral Home, Lebanon, with interment in Ryder Cemetery. Rev. Steve Skaggs officiated.
Active pallbearers were Benny Dean Hardesty, Richie Hourigan, Durran Taylor, Thomas Poff, Greg Taylor, Roger Ward, Dana Taylor, and Angel Rivera-Lara.
Honorary pallbearers were Joe Payne, Kathy Hardesty, Linda Hourigan, Donna Hardesty, Louvenia Weatherford, Linda Taylor, Melissa Taylor, Kaylene Poff, and Catina Rivera.
Bosley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
