John Cotton Thompson

John Cotton Thompson, 89, Orlando, Fla., died Oct. 19, 2012.
He was born May 17, 1923 in Holy Cross, Ky., the third child and first son of Benjamin Ballard Thompson and Mary Catherine (Cotton) Thompson.
He left farming in Kentucky in 1941 to work in manufacturing in Cleveland, Ohio and had a 44-year career at Reliance Electric Co., rising to the position of plant superintendent. He served in the U.S. Army for three years during World War II and was a veteran of the Battle of Okinawa.
In 1948 he married the former Margaret Hoban of Cleveland, Ohio who preceded him in death in 2006 after 58 years of marriage. In retirement, they lived for 22 years in On Top of the World, Ocala, Fla.
Survivors include: his son, John T. (Paula) Thompson of Orlando, Fla.; a daughter Kathleen (Dale) Boehnlein of Medina, Ohio; six grandchildren, Lori, Jennifer (Tim), Daniel (Josephine), Paul, Matthew and Benjamin (Lauren); and four great-grandsons, Christopher, Alexander, Robert, and Jack.
A memorial Mass will be held on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Ocala, Fla. with Father Patrick J. O'Doherty officiating.
