Margaret Elinor Burdette Goodin passed away Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at home surrounded by family.
She was born in Lebanon, Ky. March 22, 1929 to the late Roy and Rose Burdette.
Elinor was devoted to raising her children and caring for her family. She was an active volunteer with Scouting and 4-H, and teaching religious education classes. She had a passion for serving her community. Elinor served on the Lebanon City Park Board and the Community Service Center Board for many years. She was also instrumental in organizing and establishing the first Hospice program in Marion County.
She was preceded in death by: her brothers, J. Donald and Robert Burdette.
Elinor is survived by her husband of 63 years, Charles R. Goodin; her sister, Betty Lewis Rudd; seven daughters, Rose (Doc) Barsotti of Ellwood City, Pa., Laura Lee (Joe) Abell of Tullahoma, Tenn., Elinor (Jerry) Hill of Lexington, Ky., Evelyn (Frank) Spalding of Richmond, Ky., Karen (Mike) Whitehouse of Ft. Wright, Ky., Susan Goodin of Cranford, N.J., Marian (Kevin) DeMoss of Lexington, Ky.; three sons, Don (Carol) Goodin of Louisville, Ky., Charles Goodin, Jr. and Thomas Goodin, both of Lebanon, Ky.; 21 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was held at St. Augustine Catholic Church Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 11 a.m. with burial immediately following in St. Augustine Cemetery.
Pallbearers were her grandsons, Thomas Barsotti, Patrick Abell, Chris Hill, Brian Goodin, Eric Spalding, Daniel Whitehouse, and Charles Goodin, III.
Honorary pallbearers were Pete Thompson, Lloyd Bugg, James R. Thomas, James Avritt, Pat Mattingly, Michelle Farmer, and James P. Reed.
