Martha "Celine" Borders Beckers, 91, went home on March 2, 2014, just after receiving final blessings from the attending priest at V.A. Medical Hospital in Louisville.
She was a proud native of Lebanon and was the daughter of Judge Roy Thomas Borders and Leonora Elder Borders.
Cecline attended St. Augustine School and worked in the family grocery and dry good store. In 1943 she enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard
and served till the end of World War II
Later in life she managed the school cafeteria system for St. Augustine School until retiring. She often said that serving the kids was one of the best times of her life, as well as working with good friends and co-workers.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Gilbert Joseph "Joe" Beckers; parents, Judge Roy Thomas and Leonora Elder Borders; sister, Barbara Borders Durham; three brothers, Roy Thomas Borders Jr., Hugh Elder Borders and Joseph Borders.
Survivors include: two sons, Vallen Peter Beckers of Louisville and Gilbert Lynn Beckers of Richmond; two sisters, Cecilia Thomas and Emily Coyle both of Lebanon; four brothers, Arnold Borders of Hopkinsville, Harry Borders of Georgetown, James Borders of Albuquerque, N.M., and Terry Borders of Indianapolis, Ind.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Father Bill Bowling gave a touching memorial service and the choir sang like angels during the funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Friday, March 7, in St. Augustine Church.
Pallbearers were Harry Borders, Terry Borders, Bill Durham, Chris Borders, Daniel Beckers (grandson), Tim Coyle, and Ron Thomas.
Celine joined her husband in their earthly resting place at the Lebanon National Cemetery following a moving full honor guard presentation.
