Maurice T. "Buddy" Hays, 90, well-known farmer and horseman in Marion County, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at the Village of Lebanon.
He was born on Dec. 2, 1923, to Clella and Charlie Hays in the Pleasant Run community and remained a lifelong resident. Mr. Hays attended Pleasant Run School and was a member of Pleasant Run Methodist Church until it closed. He then became a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church.
Following his high school graduation, he married his high school sweetheart, Susan Glazebook, and established himself as a fourth-generation landowner on the family farm on the Shortline Pike in eastern Marion County. It was here that he put into practice lessons learned as a charter member of the Lebanon High School Future Farmers of America Club. He enjoyed sharing his garden produce with his many friends and family and raising livestock and horses. Offspring of his Tennessee Walkers and Standard bred pacers are found on many farms throughout Central Kentucky.
Maurice was an avid reader and storyteller. He brought past characters and events to life through his humorous anecdotal stories of family, neighbors, and friends. His stories will be shared from generation to generation, along with countless childhood memories of truck rides in the creek, drives on his Moline tractor, and adventures on the farm.
