Wallace D. "W.D." Hargis, 83, Bradfordsville, passed away Aug. 19, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa.
He was born on Oct. 31, 1928, in Oxford, Kan., to James and Lucille (Hayden) Hargis. W.D. graduated from high school in Hawesville. He was united in marriage to Juanita Vaughn on July 28, 1948, in Owensboro. W.D. worked for U.S. Steel Working in Gary, Ind. and retired from there in 1979, after 32 years. He was a member of the Ross Community Reformed Church in Gary, Ind. W.D. enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling and especially spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include: his wife of 64 years, Juanita of Bradfordsville; his children, Wallace (Linda) Hargis of Cedar Lake, Ind., Larry (Becky) Hargis of Houston, Texas, Kathy (Carl) Gearhart of Woodstock, Minn., and James Hargis of Bradfordsville; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Theola Tomer of Maceo, along with many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Sept. 1, at 1 p.m. at the Beach Fork Baptist Church in Gravel Switch.
Sietsema Vogel Funeral Homes, Hampton, Iowa, was in charge of arrangements.
