John Bernard "Johnny" Essex, 80, Springfield, passed away at 5:13 a.m., Sunday, June 24, 2018 at the Norton Women's and Children's Hospital in Louisville.
A native of Marion County, he was born on Dec. 12, 1937 to the late James Wilson and Beatrice Downs Essex. He was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church and a retired employee of Ford Motor Company.
He was preceded in death by: a sister, Agnes Geraldine Crick; and four brothers, Charles Edward, Joseph Gerald, James Robert, and Francis Leo Essex.
Survivors include: his wife, Jane Goatley Essex; a daughter, Lisa Ann Brady (Randy) of Springfield; two sons, John Michael Essex of Springfield and William Hamilton Essex (Laura) of Loretto; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, William Leon Essex (Lois) of Springfield and Thomas Damian Essex (Flo) of Louisville; a special niece, Susie Kelly (David) of Springfield; a sister-in-law, Becky Jane Essex of Loretto; and a brother-in-law, Buddy Goatley of Springfield.
A Mass of Christian burial was held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 27, at St. Dominic Catholic Church with burial in St. Dominic-Holy Rosary Cemetery. Rev. Edmund Ditton officiated.
Active pallbearers were Scott Essex, Daryl Essex, David Essex, David Kelly, Randy Sallee, and Stevie Kelly.
Honorary pallbearers were Michael Barnett, Joe Fenwick, Gerrit Thomas, J.J. Essex, Cody Essex, Peyton Essex, Matthew Essex, Jane Hilton, and Austin Kelly.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Dominic Capital Campaign in memory of John Essex.
