Ransdall Lee Carpenter Sr., 75, Gravel Switch, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014 at his residence.
He was born on Jan. 24, 1938 to the late Edward Harlan and Ila Virginia McCarty Carpenter. Ransdall was a self-employed milk hauler, he along with his wife and three sons operated this business for over 40 years. They made daily deliveries to Armour foods in Springfield from farms in Marion and surrounding counties. He also enjoyed and took pride in working on the farm alongside his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be missed by all who was blessed to know him and his kind and gentle ways
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by: two aunts, Elsie (Farris) Carpenter and Lovertta (Clifton) Chandler.
Survivors include: his wife of 52 years, Wanda "Ted" Raikes Carpenter of Gravel Switch; three sons, Ransdall "Randy" (Lana) Carpenter Jr. and Brian (Anita) Carpenter of Gravel Switch, and Todd (Lottie Smothers) Carpenter of Lebanon; six grandchildren, Brandi (Chris) Carpenter Thomas of Perryville, Kara Carpenter, Anna Carpenter, and Michael Carpenter of Lebanon, and Lee Carpenter and Harley Carpenter of Gravel Switch; two great-grandchildren, Bryan Tyler Carpenter and Aiden Brantley Carpenter; one aunt, Dorothy (Ray) Molen of Harrodsburg; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at Campbell-DeWitt Funeral Home, Lebanon, with burial in Carpenter Cemetery in Gravel Switch. Larry E. Moore officiated.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heritage Hospice of Danville.
Pallbearers were Lee Carpenter, Harley Carpenter, Michael Carpenter, Terry Adkins, Chris Thomas, and Jonathan Roller.
Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Don Hamner, Eugene Hourigan, Bobby Hourigan, Larry Hourigan, Donald McCarty, Brandi Thomas, Kara Carpenter, Anna Carpenter, Bryan Tyler Carpenter, Aiden Brantley Carpenter, Kelly Downs, Kristin Gallagher, Susan Carpenter Grady, and Tiffany Law.
Campbell-DeWitt Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
