Sister Ruth Mattingly, 83, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018, at Mount Saint Joseph in her 62nd year of religious life. She was a native of Loretto.
She was born Frances Ruth Mattingly to the late Joseph George and Annie Mae Mattingly. Her former religious name was Sister Walter Ann Mattingly. She taught throughout Kentucky, Missouri, and New Mexico. She also ministered in personal and pastoral care at the Motherhouse infirmary (1984-91) and was coordinator of the Guest House (1993-96) at Maple Mount.
Survivors include: her sister, Esther Kraft of Louisville; and two brothers, Walter Mattingly of Louisville and John Mattingly of Lexington.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5, at Mount Saint Joseph, where visitation will begin Sunday, Nov. 4, at 4 p.m., with a wake service following at 6:30 p.m.
