Joseph Benjamin Hamilton, 98, Lebanon, passed away Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014 at his residence.

He was born on Aug. 10, 1915 to the late William and Martha Young Hamilton. Hamilton was a WWII Army veteran, technical sergeant, 2nd BN, 160th Infantry in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He was founder-proprietor of Hamilton Laundry and Dry Cleaners from 1947 until 1971. He was instrumental in establishing the Lebanon Housing Authority and served as its chairman of the board from 1956 to 1971, then as executive director from 1971 until 1981, when he continued as part time coordinator until 1986. He was a life-long member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign War, American Legion, Kiwanis Club, and Chamber of Commerce.
He was preceded in death by: brothers, H. Louis Hamilton and Richard Hamilton; sisters, Irene Beaven, Catherine Hamilton, Mary Rose Heffernan, and Virginia Bunch.
Survivors include: his wife of 66 years, Elizabeth (Lib) Lancaster Hamilton of Lebanon; five daughters, Mary Kay (Leon) Mayo, Harrodsburg, Mahala (Pat) Mattingly and Virginia "Sugar" Hamilton all of Lebanon, Beth (Ed) Lorenz of Newport, Jo Marie (Ed) Lammy of Danville, one son, Bill (Susan) Hamilton of Bardstown, sisters, Flaget Raby of Louisville, Frankie Leachman of Lebanon, and Dorothy Jacobson of Augusta, Ga.; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held Sunday, Feb. 2 at Bosley Funeral Home with funeral services held at St. Augustine Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, followed by burial at St. Augustine Cemetary.
Pallbearers were grandsons, David L. Mayo Jr., Patrick A. Mattingly, Tyler J. Lorenz, Jack H. Lammy, and Benjamin C. Hamilton, and Godson, Walter E. Leachman Jr.
Honorary pallbearers were his caregivers, Libby Marlin, Joyce Gaddie, Jennifer Howard, Vickie Caldwell, Felicia Spalding, and Lorene Gunn.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Hosparus of KY or St. Augustine Catholic School.
