Columbus, GA- Mr. George A. Hampton, (SSG, Retired Army) of Columbus passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at Columbus Hospice House. He was 89 years of age and resided at 4418 Sentry Street.
The son of the late George Albert Hampton and Louella Whitaker Hampton Fox, and the step son of the late Benjamin Fox, Jr., Mr. Hampton was born on April 28, 1923 in Mulberry, TN. He was a U. S. Army Veteran of WWII and the Korean War, retiring after 20 years of dedicated service. He was employed with Hertz Rental Car and was the owner/operator of Hampton & Son Upholstery.
Survivors include: his wife of over 35 years, Mrs. Charlie Clara Hampton; three sons, Jimmy Hampton, George E. Hampton (Annie) and Al Star; two daughters, Nerline Hampton and Ramona Simpson; four step-children, Tom Johnson (Rose), Synthia Jenkins (Dwayne), Joan Dalton (James) and Sonja Lewis; two brothers, Lewis Kelso and Harvey Kelso; two sisters, Aline Fox Count and Ruby Fox Giles; several grand and great grandchildren, a host of other relatives and friends.
The Homegoing Celebration for Mr. Hampton will be held Friday, 12 Noon at the Greater Peace Baptist Church with Rev. Corey Neal, Pastor officiating. The interment will follow in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery with Full Military Honors accorded. Visitation is Today, 2 til 6:00pm at the funeral home. The cortege will depart from residence at 11:30am the day of the service. Arrangements entrusted to the staff of Progressive Funeral Home, Inc.
