Marshall III, John Wingfield - Columbus  
John Wingfield Marshall III February 11, 1931- February 22, 2015 Columbus, Georgia- John Wingfield Marshall III , age 84, of Columbus, passed away at home on Feb. 22, 2015. Funeral services are scheduled for Feb. 26, 2015, 2pm, at First Presbyterian Church in Columbus. A visitation will follow the service in the Johnston wing. Mr. Marshall was born in Atlanta on Feb. 11, 1931, but settled in Athens as a grade-schooler. Always an exceptional athlete, he became a three sport star at Athens High, lettering three years each in baseball, basketball, and football. Mr. Marshall went on to graduate from the University of Georgia, where he was a three year letterman in both basketball and baseball, and key part of the 1953 SEC Championship baseball team. Widely regarded as one of the premier athletes of his era, Mr. Marshall was inducted into the Athens Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004, and was a member of Georgia's Gridiron Secret Society. He attended graduate school at UGA as a Comer Fund Fellow. His life-long love of sports led him to coach many of Columbus' fine young athletes in both baseball - the Peach Little League and Pony League - and in Pop Warner football. After college, he served in the US Air Force for 5 years, discharging at the rank of Captain. Mr. Marshall then settled in Columbus to raise his family and start his business career which was culminated by 25 years as President of EJ Knight Scrap Material Company. He was a long-time Rotarian, and was recognized with both the Paul Harris and the Will Watt Fellow awards. Mr. Marshall was a member of First Presbyterian Church here in Columbus. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ann Hamilton Marshall, and his children Terri Pitcher (Gene) of Springfield TN, John Marshall (Hope) of Richmond VA , Martha Marshall (Mitch Reeves) of Atlantic Beach FL, Barbara Gunter (Huel) of Silverlake, OH and Elizabeth Vance (Tracy) of Thompson GA; a sister, Mary Wade (Ted) of Smyrna GA and 2 brothers, Pat Marshall (Fay) and Bill Marshall, all of Athens, GA. Also by 5 granddaughters - Anne Marshall, Courtney Thompson, Meg Marshall, Emily Reeves, Macy Gunter as well as 3 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Wingfield Marshall JR and Frances Rhodes Marshall, and a brother, Hal Marshall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First Presbyterian Church of Columbus, the Athens GA YMCA camps or the Columbus Hospice House.

Mrs. Margaret Martin September 1, 1934- February 19, 2015 Columbus, Georgia- Mrs. Margaret Martin, 80, of Columbus Georgia passed away Thursday February 19, 2015 at Martin Army Hospital. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM EST Friday, February 27, 2015 at Kimbrough's Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Charlotte Caldwell of Beth Salem Presbyterian Church will be officiating. Interment will follow at The Fort Mitchell National Cemetery. Mrs. Martin was born September 1, 1934 in Winnsboro, South Carolina. daughter of the late Bill Rosebrough and Shellie R. Goins. Mrs. Martin graduated from Howard University. She began playing music since high school. She taught music, and also was a musician for Greater Love Baptist Church and other churches thoughout the community. Survivors include her husband ,CWO John Martin. Four Sons Marion A. Lawhorn (Cheryl), Deland Lawhorn, James B. Lawhorn, and Kevin Lawhorn. One Grandchild Christian Lawhorn. Mason, Wesley James "Jim" - Columbus  
Wesley James "Jim" Mason January 27, 1938- February 19, 2015 Columbus, GA- MAJ (Ret) Wesley James "Jim" Mason of Columbus, passed away Thursday, February 19, 2015 at the age of 77. Born on Thursday, January 27, 1938 in Ann Arbor, MI., he was the son of the late Robert Lee and Catherine Monroe Mason. He married Inge Franz Mason on January 15, 1960. He retired as a Major from the US Army in 1976 and later retired from the Columbus Ledger Enquirer Newspaper in 2002. He was a affiliate member of Asbury United Methodist Church. He was active in Boy Scouts for over 40 years, serving as a Scoutmaster and Camp Ranger at Uchee Creek Boy Scout Camp. Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Inge Mason; a son, James Sands Mason(Amy); a daughter, Stephanie Higgins; grandchildren, Robert Higgins Jr, Michael Everett, Victoria Higgins, James Michael Mason, Christopher Mason, Eva Morris and Christopher Morris; great grandson, Jeremai Everett; a brother-in-law, Harry Tos Brannstrom; nephews, Ricky Mason, Randy Mason, Robbie Mason and Sam Mason; niece, Pam Bouchard; daughters of his heart, Tracy Meyers, Daniela Roberts, Dana Stinson, Rose Usher and Tina Whittamore; grandchildren of his heart, Xzavier Moore, Dougie Props, Julia Roberts, Nadine Roberts and Joey Woodard. He also leaves behind his faithful companion and protector, Kipper Scratch Mason; and many other beloved family and friends. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Two O'Clock P.M.at Asbury United Methodist Church with Reverend Norman Dunlap officiating. Mary Charles McGee September 20, 1937- February 20, 2015 Columbus, Ga- Mary Charles McGee, 77 of Columbus died Friday, February 20, 2015 at the Columbus Hospice House. Funeral services will be Monday, February 23rd , 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church with burial in Parkhill Cemetery. Father Dan O'Connell will officiate. A Rosary will be said at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, February 22, 2015 at Striffler Hamby Mortuary, Columbus with visitation to follow from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Mrs. McGee was born September 20, 1937 in Montgomery and raised in Mt. Meigs Alabama. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Barnett and Mary Ledyard Pinkston. Mary Charles had been a resident of Columbus since 1964. She devoted her life to being a loving and caring wife, Mama and Mimi. She more than excelled in all! Mary Charles was an active member of the George Walton Chapter DAR, the Windsor Park Garden Club, she was also involved in a number of charitable activities throughout her life. Survivors include her husband retired CSU professor, Billy D. McGee of Columbus, two daughters: Jane Wesley McGee Pair and her husband Kent of Midland, Ga., Philippa McGee Brown and her husband, Neal of Hamilton, Ga.; sister, Philippa Todd of Mt. Meigs, Alabama and brother, Thomas B. Pinkston, Jr. of Mt. Meigs, Alabama and five grandchildren and one great grandson: Bryant and wife Laura Pair and son Mack, John and wife Jessica Pair, Christopher, Kathleen and Thomas Brown.
