Chattanooga, TN- Mrs. Alvin Collins Jeter went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 19, 2012. Mrs. Jeter was born in Donaldsonville, Georgia, September 2, 1914. She was 97. Mrs. Jeter lived in Chancellor, Alabama, Columbus, Georgia, and Mobile, Alabama for several years before making Chattanooga, Tennessee her home. Mrs. Jeter's passion in life was family, care-giving, cooking, quilting and giving love to all.
Mrs. Jeter was preceded in death by her husband of over 52 years, Albert Lee Jeter; sons, Harold Jeter and Darold Jeter, a daughter, Joyce Jeter Peterson, two infant daughters and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include four children, Ned Jeter, of Chicago, Illinois, Evelyn Jeter (Leon) Solomon, of Scotch Plains, New Jersey, Wayne (Julie) Jeter, of West Palm Gardens, Florida, and Sharon Jeter (David) Johnson, of Collegedale, Tennessee. She is also survived by a brother, Charles (Jeanette) Collins, of Goldsboro, North Carolina, a sister, Mildred Collins(Enoch) Franklin, of Colonial, New Jersey, 29 grandchildren, 72 great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Consulate Skilled Nursing Care of Chattanooga, Tennessee and to Amedisys Hospice of Chattanooga, Tennessee for their outstanding care and love of Mrs. Jeter.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday March 24, 2012 at Green Acres Cemetery, 1485 Schatulga Rd, Columbus, Georgia. Arrangements are by the Progressive Funeral Home, located at 4235 St. Mary's Rd, Columbus, Georgia, 31907.
The family will receive friends and family on this evening, March 23, 2012, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Progressive Funeral Home.
