Columbus, GA- Mary Frances Banks died Saturday at Columbus Hospice House. She was 72 years old and resided at 331 28th Avenue in Columbus.
A native of Birmingham, AL., Miss Banks was born March 23, 1940, a daughter of the late James R.,Sr., and Beatrice Talley Banks. Residing in Columbus most of her life, she was a 1958 graduate of William H. Spencer High School where she was a flute player in the famed Greenwaves Marching Band. She attended Tuskegee and Florida A&M Universities and received her Associates Degree from Chattahoochee Valley Community College. She had been employed with Columbus Foundry, Muscogee County School System, Columbus Ledger-Enquirer and the CRC at Ft. Benning, GA. She was a member of Carver Heights Presbyterian Church, serving as an Elder and a member of the choir.
She was preceded in death by a great niece, Jade K. Abrams.
Surviving are two siblings: Anne Abrams and James R. Banks, Jr. (Ozella); niece and nephews: Terri Abrams, Timothy(Michelle) and Marc Abrams; great nieces and nephews: Talley Jordan, Jennifer and Mya Abrams, James Anderson, Benjamin Abrams and Tori J. Mosley; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
Miss Banks will be laid to rest at Green Acres Cemetery on Friday during a 11:00 A.M. Homegoing Celebration. Officiating will be Pastor Timothy Reynolds. Family members and friends are asked to assemble at Progressive Funeral Home, Inc. Friday at 10:30 A.M. Arrangements entrusted to Progressive Funeral Home, Inc. A special thank you is rendered to the Columbus Regional Healthcare, the Source Program, St. Francis Hospital and the Columbus Hospice.

I'm so sorry to hear about Ms.Banks, she was an amazing person and she cared sooo much for me and my boys.I worked with her @ CRC. I've talked to her a few times over the past few years but not enough.. she was a joker, always had me laughing and was there for me when i needed someone to talk to. she called me her white daughter thats how she introduced me to a family member when she was at the hospital..Ms.Banks you are loved and missed deeply...

sorry for your loss ,i worked with Ms Banks at CRC and she ws a gd friend and co worker to me i always loved her,praying for strength and guidance for the family and other friends

I did not know Mrs. Banks but my daughter worked with her at Fort Benning and always spoke very highly of her. My condolences to the family and may she rest in peace.
