Columbus, GA- Staff Sergeant Retired Henry McDuffie, Jr. of Columbus passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at his home. He was 91 years of age and resided at 115 Engineer Drive.
The son of the late Henry, Sr. and Annie Hair McDuffie, Sgt. McDuffie was born in Columbia, SC on September 22, 1921. He was a United States Army
Veteran, retiring after 28 years of dedicated service, and was also retired from Columbus State University following 20 years as a Captain with the Campus Police Department. He was a member of the VFW
#556 and the American Legion Post 35. He was preceded in death by a son, Bernard McDuffie, and six siblings, William, Bennie, Elliott, Benjamin and Herman McDuffie and Rebecca Mackey.
Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Mary King McDuffie; two sons, Ronald McDuffie and Ron McDuffie (Diane); five daughters, Barbara Mayo (Niles), Yvette Debro, Rose Worthy (Carl), Vanessa Pinnix (Tyrone), Shelly Tribbey (Kenneth) and Easter Smith; twenty grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren; one sister, Rosetta Gunther; a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and his devoted four legged companion, PeeWee McDuffie.
The Homegoing Celebration for Sgt. McDuffie will be on Monday at 1:00 pm at The Infantry Center Chapel at Main Post, Ft. Benning, GA with interment in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. Visitation is Today, 1 til 4:00 pm at the funeral home. The cortege will depart from the residence at 12:30 pm the day of the service.
