Smyrna, GA- Samuel "Sam" Harris Vega, 23 of Smyrna, GA died Saturday, January 12, 2013 at the Columbus Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Calvary Baptist Church, 7490 Old Moon Rd., Columbus, GA 31909 with Chaplain Vern Jordin officiating. The family will receive close friends following the service at the church. A private interment will be held later, according to McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Sam was born June 13, 1989 in Portland, Oregon son of Robert Vega, Jr. and Jennifer Anne Moar of Portland OR. He graduated in December of 2012 from Columbus State University with a BA in Political Science. An original essay of his was published in a political science journal sponsored by CSU. Sam got great satisfaction from assisting the elderly as a dietary aide at The Gardens of Calvary. In his free time you could find him in his room for hours, perfecting his guitar technique. He was happiest on his dirt bike, camping, or just being surrounded by friends. Sam fed his friends and family original culinary creations with an Asian twist, with many of the ingredients coming fresh from his makeshift yard garden.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Robert Vega, Sr. and maternal grandfather, Ronald Harris.
Survivors include his mother, Jennifer Anne Moar of Portland, OR; father and step mother, Robert Vega, Jr. and Lou Ann Brickey-Vega of Smyrna, GA; brother, Michael Harris Vega of Columbus, GA; paternal grandmother, Armida Vega of El Paso, TX and maternal grandmother, Judy Wilde of Cathlamet, WA.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Calvary Baptist Church, in Sam's memory.
