Tuskegee, AL- Willie B. Shavers 78, of Tuskegee, AL formally of Columbus passed Saturday January 12, 2013 at the Veteran's Medical Center, Tuskegee, AL. Funeral services will be 12:30PM Friday January 18, 2013 at the Rose Hill Chapel of Hill-Watson-People's Funeral Service LLC, 2919 Hamilton Road with Rev. Willie L. Hill officiating. Interment will follow at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, AL with military honors. Visitation will be today Thursday January 17, 2013 from 1:00PM-7:00PM at the funeral home. Mr. Shavers was born March 01, 1934 in Columbus, Georgia, son of the late Henry Shavers and Mary Lizzie Marshall. Willie B. accepted Christ at an early age while attending Little Mount Olive Baptist Church in Forston, Georgia. He was a decorated United States Army
Veteran because of his service and injuries sustained in the Korean Conflict
. One such honor bestowed upon Willie B while performing his duty was a combat decoration medal that is our nation's oldest military medal, better known as the Purple Heart
. He was also awarded 3 bronze Star
Medals, which is the 4th highest award for bravery, and heroism. After his military service, he studied butchery. Later becoming a Master Butcher, which lead to him owning butchery businesses in several states. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife Mrs. Carrie Louvina Shavers, six girls, Elfreda (deceased), Mary, Scherry (Warnia) Daigle, Pricilla (deceased), Evelyn (deceased), and Elisabeth Shavers of Columbus Georgia. Five boys, Willie( Maria), Jake, Thor, Paul (Lisa), and Aaron Shavers(Justine) all of Aurora Illinois. Sixteen grand-children, Fourteen great-grand-children. He also leaves behind two brothers, Ralph (Shirley) Shavers, Henry Shavers of Columbus, Georgia, William Howard (deceased) of Detroit Michigan. Two sister, Eva Mae Lawrence, and Francis Shavers of Columbus, Georgia, and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends.
