Columbus, GA- Myrtle G. Day, 96, of Columbus, GA died Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at Columbus Hospice House.
Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Thursday, June 30, 2011 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Ronnie Jordan, and Reverend Woody Clark officiating. A private interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5 till 7 P.M. at the funeral home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. The following will serve as honorary pallbearers: Jimmy Clark, Ronnie Clark, David Glisson, Mark Glisson, Mike Glisson and Adam Glisson.
Mrs. Day was born July 25, 1914 in Pelham, GA daughter of the late Elwood G. and Sallie Mariah Holland Glisson. She worked for Archer Hosiery Mill in Columbus. She later worked with her husband, Floyd, at his Avis Car Rental, Radio Cab, Air Freight Pick Up and Delivery, and Real Estate Companies. She was a member of Wynnbrook Baptist Church, a member and past president of the Columbus Council of Garden Clubs, member and past president of the Azalea Garden Club, board member and president for two years of the Ann Elizabeth Shepherd Home, member and past president of the Wynnton Study Club, and member and past vice president of the Columbus Women's Club. During the years in which her children attended school, she served in the P.T. A.'s at their respective schools. She also was a member of the American Legion Post #35 Ladies Auxillary during the time her husband was a member there.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Day, two sons, James Robert Day and Wayne C. Day, two brothers, Billy Glisson and Bobby Glisson, and two sisters, Alline Scott and Ellen Draper.
Survivors include her three grandchildren, Wayne Charles Day, Jr. (Megan) of Columbus, GA, James Robert Day of Columbus, GA and Rebecca Tidman of Columbus, GA, five great grandchildren, Robbie Day, Taylor Day, Sophie Day, Caroline Day and Hannah Tidman, one brother, Leroy Glisson (Katie) of Columbus, GA, two sisters-in-law, Betty Glisson of Columbus, GA and Ruth Glisson of Columbus, GA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Wynnbrook Baptist Church Children's Ministries 500 River Knoll Way Columbus, GA 31904 or to Columbus Hospice 7020 Moon Rd. Columbus, GA 31909 www.columbushospice.com

I met Mrs. Day recently as part of our Deacon ministry program at Wynnbrook Baptist Church. My wife and I enjoyed our visit with Mrs. Day and know she was looking forward to her birthday in July. I am so sorry for you lost and pray for your peace and comfort.
