Columbus, GA- Miss Destiny Janell Nelson passed away Monday at the age of 17.
The beloved daughter of Amber Colette Daniel and Nakieddrian Nelson of Columbus, Destiny was born in Columbus and was an eleventh grade Honors student at Early College Academy with a dual enrollment at Columbus State University. She served as V. Pres. of the Junior Class, a member of the Prom Committee, Debate Team, National Jr. Honors Society, the National Scholars Honor Society, and Students Against Destructive Decisions. She was a member of Pitts Chapel AME Church in Midland, GA where she was active with the Youth Ushers, Choir and the YPD. She volunteered with the Chattahoochee Valley Library, Ft. Middle School and was a Delta Gem.
Survivors other than her parents, include: five sisters, Heavenly Daniel, Trinity Nelson, Tekaylah Reese, Tekireah Reese and Serenity Lane; her grandparents, Mrs. Mary Ann Leverett and Mrs. Loretta Daniel; beloved aunts and uncles, Cathy Leverett, Angelline Daniel, Caryn Daniel, Gary Daniel, Lionell Daniel, Josephine Crawford, Hattie Bailey, Willie B. Leverett and Theodore Hood; her godmother, Rosalyn Fluellen; special friends, Chiantae Reese and Monica Mitchell; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
The Homegoing Celebration for Destiny will be Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John AME Church with interment in Green Acres Cemetery. Rev. Norris J. Smith will officiate.
