Manchester, GA- Dorothy Jeanne Morris Smith Hanlon died on March 27th, 2014 in her home in Manchester. She was the daughter of the late Dorothy Boland Smith and Mace Morris, both of Columbus and step-daughter of the late Lt. Col. William Brooks Smith of Ellerslie, Georgia. Upon moving to New Jersey, after Lt. Col. Smith became employed by Lipton Tea Company where he served as V.P. of Marketing, Mrs. Hanlon graduated from Penn Hall Preparatory School and Junior College. At the return of her parents to Georgia, Mrs. Hanlon followed and settled in Pine Mountain for many years and was employed by Georgia Power Company in its local office. Jeanne is survived by her daughter, Whitney Werner (William Spiller) and grandchildren, Sean, Alec and Cate of Larkspur, California. In addition, she is survived by cousins, Thomas Boland (Beth Ann), Mrs. Roy Blanton (Estelle) all of Atlanta; Mrs. Elsie Fields (Marcus) of South Carolina; the former Mrs. Clifford Robertson (Marcia Abernathy) of Columbus, and as witness to her charming personality, many affectionate friends and associates. She leaves behind her beloved animal companions, Gayla and Stella and numerous adored kitties.
A true lover of animals, she was generous beyond count with her time, talents and resources on their behalf. The family suggests donations be made in Jeanne's honor to The Milo Foundation, P. O. Box 6625, Albany, CA 94706, milofoundation.org, your local no-kill shelter or animal rescue organization/charity. A private celebration of her life will be held at a future date.
