Columbus, GA- Mrs. Dorothy Jones Simmons on Columbus passed away Monday at St. Francis Hospital. She was 82 years of age and resided at 3230 Carver Street.
A life-long resident of Columbus, Mrs. Simmons was the daughter of the late Rand and Rosa Howard Jones. She attended Spencer High School, graduating with the class of 1949, and studied nursing. She was a member of Holsey Chapel CME Church where she served faithfully with the Pastor's Aid Board.
She was retired from Fox Elementary School as a para-professional and volunteered with the Columbus Police Department. She was also a member of the Les Anges Social Club for over 50 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Simmons.
Surviving her departure with cherished memories, include: five daughters, Rosalind Jackson, Chrysanthemum Presley, Athavia Senior, Octavia Pittman, and Gennie Jackson; one son, Mario T. Simmons; eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren; four sisters, Mary Hardy, Betty Lowe (James K.), Ruby Golatt and Rose M. Taylor; three brothers, Rand Jones, Jr., Woodrow Jones and William C. Jones, (Sandra); a host of nieces, nephews, cousin, other relatives and friends.
Homegoing Services for Mrs. Simmons will be 12:00 pm Today at Holsey Chapel CME Church with the interment in Main Post Cemetery. Pastor Jamie Capers will officiate. The cortege will depart from the residence at 11:30 today. Arrangements entrusted to the staff of Progressive Funeral Home, Inc. "A Touch of Dignity for Those Who Care."
