George Wilder Mitchell, Jr. August 22, 1933- June 7, 2009 HAMILTON, GA— George Wilder Mitchell, Jr., of Hamilton, died June 7, 2009 at Heritage Hills Special Care Center. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. EST at Wynnbrook Baptist Church, 500 River Knoll Way, Columbus, Georgia with Dr. Kevin Calhoun and Dr. Wayne Wood, cousin from Moultrie, GA, officiating. The family will receive guests immediately following the service in the church Conference Center. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. EST in the Hurtsboro Cemetery, Hurtsboro, Alabama. Mr. Mitchell was born August 22, 1933 in Wadley, Alabama to the late George Wilder Mitchell and Myrtle Wood Mitchell. He graduated from Auburn University in 1955 and owned Valley Fir and Redwood Company from that time until the present. Survivors include his children Jeanie Mitchell McDonald and her husband, Tommy; Janet Leigh Mitchell; George Wilder Mitchell, III (Tripp) and his wife, Danielle, all of Columbus and Joanie Mitchell Koehler and her husband, Tim, of Asheville, North Carolina. His grandchildren include Allison McDonald Murfee and her husband, Brad, of Starkville, Mississippi; Jon Rhodes McDonald and Meredith Mitchell McDonald both of Auburn, Alabama; Kerstin Ann Koehler, Chad Wilder Koehler, and Courtney Catherine Koehler, all of Asheville, North Carolina; Rebecca Ann Mitchell and George Hampton Mitchell of Columbus. Honorary Pallbearers will be Frank Carroll, Doug Duncan, Walter Eason, Jack Key and Bill Scrantom. Pallbearers will be Kimbrough Cox, Clay Duncan, Ed French ,Craig Greenhaw, Chris Parker, Randy Redmond, Gusty Walker and Marty Wood. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or your favorite charity.

Thanks for the memories that your dad provided for Jane and I over the last 20 or so years. The "MAYOR" was indeed a very special person, whom we both will miss dearly.
