Chapin, SC- A funeral service for Harold "Hal" James Grimes, 47, will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 14, 2013, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo with visitation from 5 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Grimes died Saturday, February 9, 2013. Born in Columbia, he was a son of Harold Gordon Grimes and Dixie Land (Grimes) Holton and stepfather, Bill Holton. Mr. Grimes attended Auburn University and remained a "Dye"-hard Tiger fan until his death. His favorite quote was "Go big or go home!." Hal never met a stranger and always "walked the walk" accomplishing anything he set his mind to. He was collectivistic and thrived on helping people. Hal was the best and most loving husband, father, brother, son, uncle, cousin and friend to all!
Surviving are his wife of 23 years, Wendee S. Grimes, of Chapin; son, Jay Grimes of Chapin; daughter, Anna Grimes of Chapin; brother, Ben Grimes of Phenix City, Ala., sister, Susan Edwards of Columbus, Ga., brother-in-law Cameron Stowe of Boston, Mass.; father-in-law, I.D. Stowe, Danville, Va.; nieces, Laura, Aly and Jenna Grimes, all of Phenix City, Ala.; nephew, Jacob Edwards, Columbus, Ga.; aunt and uncle, Martha and Ronnie Young of Loganville, Ga.; aunt, Grace Hassen of Phenix City, Ala., and a host of cousins including Heather Kistler, Christan Young, Jim Young and friends all over the world.
