Columbus, Georgia- Leroy "Roy" Jernigan, 81, of Columbus, Georgia went to be with our Lord Saturday September 22, 2012.
Funeral services with military honors will be held at 1:00pm Tuesday September 25, 2012 in the Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia 31907 with Reverend Dr. Dennis Stalvey officiating. Burial to follow in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Jernigan was born February 28, 1931 in Munson, Florida, son of the late Henry Jernigan and Pearlie Mae Cooley Jernigan, and was also preceded in death by his four sisters and one brother. Mr. Jernigan was a retired U.S. Army veteran of Korea and Vietnam with 20 years of service and also retired from the Rutledge Correctional Institute with 20 years of faithful service. He was a member of Midway United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia "Pat" Jernigan of Columbus, his daughters, Terri Watson and her husband Bobby Jr. of Phenix City, Alabama, Phyllis Clark and her husband Charlie of Bogart, Georgia, Laura Belda and her husband Dan of Abilene, Kansas, a brother, Otis Jernigan and his wife Bonnie, 7 grandchildren, Benjamin Watson and his wife Alana, Adam Watson and his wife Ashley, Brantley Clark, Sarah Belda, Kaliegh Belda, Savana Clark, and Mark Belda, 2 great grandsons, Gabriel Watson and Hunter Leroy Watson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Midway United Methodist Church, 4442 Buena Vista Road, Columbus, Georgia 31907
