Lakeland, FL- Ruth Fitzpatrick Conn, 94 passed away on August 18, 2014 in Lakeland, FL. Graveside funeral service will be on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at 11:00 AM in Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Rd, Columbus, GA, with Striffler-Hamby of Columbus, GA in charge of arrangements.
Ruth was born in Macon GA, the twin sister of the former James Pruett Fitzpatrick, Jr. and daughter of Annile Laurie Fincher Fitzpatrick and James Pruett Fitzpatrick, Sr. she lived in Macon until her marriage there on March 17, 1944 to Dr. Lee Roy M. Conn of Blacksville, WV. She is survived by three children: Claudia Gail Conn, Huntsville AL, Stephens Minor Conn, Gulfport FL and Laurie Ann Conn, Newnan GA; nieces Veran Smith, Gainesville GA, Vicki Davis, Chattanooga TN, and nephew James Randolph Fitzpatrick, Sunset Beach NC, and their children.
Ruth lived in Columbus GA from 1949 to 1989 when she moved to Winter Haven FL. Her husband Dr. Lee Roy M. Conn practiced medicine in Columbus with Dr.'s Conner & Dykes for 30 years before his death in 1985. While in Columbus they were members of St. Luke United Methodist Church and the Shaw Sunday School Class. She was active in the Muscogee County Medical Auxiliary, serving as President in 1962. She was a member of the Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary, President in 1968, and served for many years as Gift Shop Chairman. She was also a member of the Flower Workshop and on the Board of the Anne Elizabeth Shepherd Home. She enjoyed being a member of the "Young in Heart" First Baptist Church and made many trips with the group.
Moving to Winter Haven FL in 1989 she was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church and Gospel Sunday School Class and a Life Member of the Winter Haven Hospital Auxiliary. In 1997 she moved to Lakeland FL residing at Carpenter's Home Estates. She was a member of College Heights United Methodist Church. She loved to cook and travel and had many wonderful friends.
