Columbus, GA- First SGT (Retired) Franklin Elliott of Columbus passed away Saturday, February 8, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital. He was 73 years of age and resided at 3103 Huntwood Drive.
The son of the late Edward and Onnie M. Pittman Elliott, Sgt. Elliott was born in Duck Hill, MS on December 19, 1940. He was a U. S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, and was a member of the Columbus Seventh Day Adventist Church where he served as Head Deacon. He was also a member of the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his wife, Judith, and two sisters, Annie Holman and Susie Smith.
Surviving are: two step children, Richard Benning and Venessa Benning; two grandchildren and one great grandchild; four brothers, Henry Elliott (Verilie), James O. Elliott (Elizabeth), Roy C. Elliott (Barbara) and Archie Elliott; three sisters, Ollie Elliott, Minnie Whittaker (Irvin) and Glenda E. Crain (Ezzard C.); a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Homegoing Services for First SGT Elliott will be held Sunday, February 16, 2014 at 10:00 am at the Columbus Seventh Day Adventist Church, 7880 Schomburg Road with Pastor Keith Trumbo officiating. The interment will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, February 18, 2013 with Full Military Honors at Main Post Cemetery, Ft. Benning, GA. Visitation will begin Saturday at 1:00 pm with a Family Hour from 4 til 6:00 pm at the funeral home. The cortege will depart from the residence at 9:15 the morning of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the , the Columbus Seventh Day Adventist Church or to a . Arrangements entrusted to the staff of Progressive Funeral Home, Inc.
