Columbus, Georgia- Columbus, GA- Lenard Hundley, a man known for his great sense of humor and his love of fishing, gardening, Atlanta Braves baseball, and Alabama Crimson Tide football, passed away at his home on April 5, 2014. He was surrounded by his devoted grandsons, John (Jamie) Cooper, Gabriel (Tonya) Hundley, Bobby (Brittany) Southerland, Jr., his best friend, Lillian Howard, and other family and friends.
The son of the late Tyra and Mittie Cox Hundley, Mr. Hundley was born in Birmingham, AL and was raised in Slocomb, AL before moving to Columbus, GA as a young adult. During his life, he was employed by Muscogee Mills and the Columbus Consolidated Government. He was a long-time member of Living Grace United Methodist Church, formerly Edgewood United Methodist Church, where he was an active member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class.
Other than his parents, Mr. Hundley was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Martha Julyett Hundley, and his sisters Flora Spivey and Katreen White, both of Slocomb, AL.
Survivors of Mr. Hundley include a son, Kenneth L. (Tammy) Hundley of LaGrange, GA, a daughter Linda (Bob) Stuart of Columbus, GA; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law Mary Lou (John) Marth; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5 - 7 PM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary at 4071 Macon Rd. Funeral services will at held at 11 AM on Wednesday, April 9, at Living Grace United Methodist Church at 3969 Edgewood Circle with the Rev. Roy White officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Columbus Hospice, 7020 Moon Rd., Columbus, GA.
