Columbus, GA- (Ret). SSGT Jessel Callaway, affectionately known as "Jay", 60, of 6536 Forrest Road, Columbus, GA passed Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at his residence.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. EST, Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Forrest Park Baptist Church with Rev. Donovan Coley, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Main Post Cemetery, Ft. Benning, GA. Visitation is today from 1 - 8 p.m. EST according to Taylor Funeral Home, Inc.
(Ret). SSGT Callaway was born July 15, 1953 in Newnan, GA to the late Rev. Will Callaway and the late Martha Thurman Callaway. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church and retired from the US Army.
Survivors include his wife, Rev. Mimmie Callaway of Columbus, GA; five sons, Michael (Tamela) Callaway, Seneca (Maria) Callaway and Timothy Callaway all of Newnan, GA; LaManace Johnson of Tuscaloosa, AL; Christopher (Liah) Humphries of Omaha, NE; one daughter, Comernisha Johnson of Columbus, GA; one brother, Thurman (Katie) Callaway of Beaufort, SC; one sister, Janice (Rev. L.B.) Houston of Roanoke, AL; eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
