Phenix City, AL- Gene Monroe Day, 87, of Phenix City, AL, passed away on Monday, May 26, 2014, at St. Francis Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm EST, on Thursday, May 29, 2014, at Vance Memorial Chapel with Reverend David Howel officiating. Interment will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens and the family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 pm EST, at the funeral home.
Mr. Day was born on April 13, 1927, in Pike County, the son of the late James Monroe Day and Allie Mathis Day. He was a Masonic Lodge 32nd degree Master Mason at Wilson Williams Lodge in Phenix City, member of the Phenix City Shrine Club and a Shriner in Alcazar Temple in Montgomery. He was also a member of Ladonia Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nanette Day of Phenix City, AL; 2 daughters, Betty Sanders, husband James and Nancy McElveen, husband Erskin; son, Larry Day, wife Cheryl; 5 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; extended family and many caring friends.
