Columbus, Georgia- SSG (Ret.) Robert James Murray Sr., 81, Columbus, Georgia died Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Columbus Hospice House.. Graveside Services will be held 1 PM Thursday, June 12, 2014 at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery with Rev. Benjamin McGruder officiating, according to Sconiers Funeral Home, 836 5th Ave., Columbus, GA. Visitation will be 12-6 PM, Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at the funeral home. SSG Murray was born April 27, 1933 in Montgomery, AL; the son of the late James and Margaret Murray. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Robert Murray served his country for over 20 years, and he was airborne and special forces. He also retired from Tom's Foods and was a member of Prince Hall Masons. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Leon Murray and Theodore Murray, three sisters, Janie Mae Parker, Teenie Mae Parker and Effie Lee Jones. He received Christ at an early age. He leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife, Constance Murray, of Columbus, GA;, one son, Robert Murray Jr. (Yolanda) of LaGrange, GA;, one daughter, Tena Murray (Keith) of Saginaw, MI;, one step son, Thaddeus Johnson Sr. of Columbus, GA;, a loving mother-in-law, Mrs. Elvira Greenleaf of Columbus, GA;, seven granddaughters, Victoria Murray, Domyniesha Hudson, Kiana Murray, Tiesha Reynolds, Patricia Anderson, Chelsea Jackson and Brittany Johnson, three grandsons, Marquis Neal, Thaddeus Johnson Jr. and Leondus Johnson, five great grandchildren, five brothers-in-law, Walter Johnson (Andrea), Gregory Greenleaf (Barbara), Carey, Anthony (Mona), and Kelvin (Sue), five sisters-in-law, Emma Murray, Belinda Watkins (Clarence), Leatrice McGruder (Rev. Benjamin McGruder), Ardria Pierce (Thomas), Annie Greenleaf, and a host of family and friends.
