Salem, AL- James Franklin Smith, 86, of Salem, AL, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2014.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm EDT, at Smiths Station Baptist Church, on Monday, July 14, 2014, with Dr. David Kees and Reverend Ralph Henderson officiating. Interment will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens and the family will receive friends Sunday evening from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm EDT at Vance Memorial Chapel. Serving as pallbearers are his grandsons, Scott Flournoy, Pate Flournoy, Cody Flournoy, Matt Evans, Jackson Massey, and Bradley Keeter and honorary pallbearers are Jerry Ables, Bobby Kilcrease, Charlie Reeder, AJ Collins, Deacons of Smiths Station Baptist Church and his Sunday school class.
Mr. Smith was born on March 12, 1928, in Renfroe, GA, the son of the late George Frank and Carrie Mae Fussell Smith. He retired from Raymond Rowe Furniture Co. after 43 years of service and was a member of Smiths Station Baptist Church. He was involved in all aspects of the church and loved the Lord and his family. He was also involved in the "meals on wheels" program with the senior citizens Center in Phenix City for 20 years and was a member of the senior adult men's Sunday school Class, the Smiths Station Ruritan and Masonic Wilson Williams Lodge in Phenix City. He was a Shriner and a 32nd degree Mason. He loved working in his shop and yard with his flowers and garden.
Other than his parents he is preceded in death by 4 sisters and a brother.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Allene Smith of Salem, AL; daughters, June (Charles) Davis, Jackie (Frank) Dow, and Judy (Gene) Flournoy all of Salem, AL; grandchildren, Amy Lake of Opelika, AL, Carmen Evans of Smiths Station, AL, Scott (Amie) Flournoy of Salem, AL, Pate (Mandy) Flournoy of Trussville, AL, Cody (April) Flournoy of Phenix City, AL, Matt (Brandie) Evans of Phenix City, AL, Jackson (Betsy) Massey of Salem, AL, and Jessica (Craig) Hicks of Franklin, TN; 16 great grandchildren; special friends, Jerry and Fay Ables and Charlie and Alice Reeder; much extended family and many caring friends.
