Opelika, AL- Myra Lela Hill Tant, 85 of Opelika, AL and formally of Phenix City, AL went home to be her Lord and Savior on Friday, August 8, 2014 while surrounded by her loving family and singing praises of her favorite helms at Arbor Springs Health and Rehab Center.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 am CDT / 11:00 am EDT Monday, August 11, 2014 at Summerville Baptist Church in Phenix City with Pastor Robert Goodman officiating. The family will receive friends this afternoon (Sunday) from 4:00 to 6:00 pm CDT / 5:00 to 7:00 pm EDT at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City. A private burial will follow on Tuesday at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery.
Mrs. Tant was born June 9, 1929 in Marianna, FL to the late Robert Pierce Hill and Myra Myrtle Register Hill. She was retired from Civil Service at Fort Benning, GA and was a member of Summerville Baptist Church in Phenix City. She enjoyed square dancing, ceramics, arts and crafts, singing in the choir, and was a member of KY's Sunday School Class and a member of the Senior Activity Center in Phenix City. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Tant, Sr., sisters, Mamie L. Bowles, Myrtle R. Powell, Hazel Stevens, and Nellie Tharpe, brothers, Colon Hill and twin brother, Lelon Hill.
She is survived by one daughter, Cathy Tant Mann and husband Terry of Phenix City, AL, two sons, James "Jim" E. Tant, Jr. and wife Ramona of Opelika, AL and John "Ricky" Tant and wife Alicia of Auburn, AL; two sisters, Eula Hammock of Columbus, GA and Ruth Banks and husband Harry of Chiefland, FL
Six grandchildren, Faith Tant Egbert (Jason), James E. Tant, III (Muffin), Holly Tant Shaver (Brad), Emily Tant Nichols (Brent), Shannon King Arrighi and Jared Lee King; ten great grandchildren, Peyton Egbert, Cade Egbert, Lane Perkins, Jaycee Tant, Wil Shaver, Sara Kate Shaver, Greyson Arrighi, Gaven Gamble, Taylor King and Dyland Speed, numerous other loving family members, church family and many caring friends.
Flowers are welcome or contributions may be made to the in memory of Mrs. Myra Lela Tant.
The family would to thank all the staff and caregivers at Camilla Place, Arbor Springs and Southern Care Hospice for their loving and compassionate care given to our mother.
