Columbus, GA- Gerald L. Cook, Sr., 87, Columbus, GA, died Monday, August 18, 2014 at Gentiva Hospice.
Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM, Thursday, August 21, 2014 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Rev. Mike McBride officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:00-7:00 PM at the funeral home.
Mr. Cook was born August 25, 1926 in LaGrange, GA, son of the late James H. Cook and Ethel Wilkinson Cook. He was a WWII Navy Gunner aboard Merchant, Cargo, and Troop Ships both in Atlantic and Pacific. He participated in the Cuban Blockade and the 1962 Belgian Congo Uprising. He was also a Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Trinity Temple Assembly of God. He retired after 21 years as a civil engineer from the civil service at Martin Army Hospital.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Geraldine Cook Burgdorf.
Survivors include his wife , Vivian Grace Cook; daughter, Sharron Hopkins (Wayne); son, Gerald L. Cook, Jr. (Susan) all of Columbus, GA; Step-Daughter, Pam Ivey of Phenix City, AL; sisters, Iris Lloyd (Don) of Pine Mountain, GA and Bobbie Eldridge of Columbus, GA; brother, Raymond Cook (Omi) of Smiths Station, AL; 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
