Columbus , GA- (Ret.) Master Chief Jerry M. Barnett, 78, Columbus, GA passed February 26, 2018.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. EST, Friday, March 2, 2018 at the Church of the Holy Family 302 12th Street, Columbus, GA with Father Dan O'Connell, officiating. Burial will follow in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, AL. Visitation will be Thursday, March 1, 2018 from 1:30-8:00 p.m. EST with a family hour from 6-7 p.m. EST according to Taylor Funeral Home, Inc.
Mr. Barnett was born November 30, 1939 in Charleston, SC to the late Willie Barnett and late Lula Ford Barnett.

When I was a kid, Jerry was my Big Brother through the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program. His volunteerism changed my life for the better. This was one of the healthiest relationships that I during my childhood, so I am forever grateful for his time here on earth. May he rest in peace.

Jerry and I were stationed togather ( US NAVY) in Nashville, TN. recruiting duty. We both loved the outdoors.
Being in Tenn there were a lot of squirrels and rabbits we decided to buy ourselves shootguns and go hunting. We did kill some and when we brought them back we did not know how to clean them or the wives to cook them. Jerry made master chief in the Navy, (E-9) the highest enlisted rank you can get. It can't get any better than that. ''MAHALO MASTER CHIEF BARNETT"
