Midland, Georgia- James Adley Sturkie, 45, of Midland, GA died Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at his residence.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 24, 2013 in St. Luke United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Beckum officiating. Interment will follow in Parkhill Cemetery with military honors according to Striffler - Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road. The family will receive friends Friday, August 23, 2013 from 5 P.M. until 7 P.M. at the funeral home.
Mr. Sturkie was born May 14, 1968 in Columbus, GA. He was with the information technology department with civil service, and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Mr. Sturkie was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church and was a coach for several years at Northern Little League.
Survivors include his wife, Lola Gilman Sturkie; a son, William Geiger Sturkie; his mother, Adleyn Geiger Scott (Steve); his father, William A. Sturkie (Karen);paternal grandmother, Alice Greene Sturke; a brother, Mark Sturkie (Krista); four sisters, Sallye Anne Pyle (John), Mary Joannah Hart (Charles), Kim Bellino and Stephanie Crutchfield; his mother and father-in-law, Juanita and Garry Gilman; sister-in-law, Michelle and Craig Greenhaw.
"James Sturkie was a tremendous example of kindness, loyalty, patience, and forgiveness. He was a wonderful father, husband, friend, brother, and son. His memory will live on in our hearts forever."
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Calvary Christian School or St. Luke United Methodist Church.
